From Situation to Response
Slow down a response sequence and explore how different links may connect.
Clinical review requiredFull-resolution WebP artwork with print-safe margins. Review the guidance below before use.
How to use it
- Choose a scenario card or make up a low-pressure example.
- Arrange cards for the situation, thought, feeling or body signal, action, and outcome.
- Move the cards to show another sequence that could also make sense.
- Add missing people, surroundings, or supports if they mattered.

Reflection prompts
- Which link was easiest or hardest to notice?
- Where could the sequence change, if you wanted it to?
- What support might help at that point?

Facilitator guidance
Treat every sequence as a hypothesis, not the correct account. Invite the child to correct the order and include context rather than locating responsibility only within the child.
Adaptations & accessibility
- Use only three cards: what happened, what I noticed, and what came next.
- Act out the sequence with toys.
- Allow the child to select icons without explaining them.
Review considerations
