How to use it

  1. Look through the pattern cards and choose any that feel familiar today.
  2. Describe the situation in which the pattern appeared.
  3. Notice what the pattern may be trying to predict, prevent, or simplify.
  4. Choose whether to keep, adjust, or set aside the thought for now.

Reflection prompts

  • What makes this pattern understandable in context?
  • What information might widen the picture?
  • What response would feel both realistic and supportive?

Facilitator guidance

Present patterns as common habits, not identities or diagnoses. Use neutral names and normalize that a pattern can sometimes be protective or efficient.

Adaptations & accessibility

  • Use only two or three cards per session.
  • Invite the client to rename or redraw a character.
  • Offer a non-character version using plain pattern descriptions.
